THE FINEST TONKIN CANE

Due to our limited output, we are still drawing from a reasonably good supply of Tonkin cane which is more than fifty years old. This cane, when properly selected for it's specific function, and heat treated to a rich brown tone, becomes the heart of the Carlson "Four"

FOUR STRIP CONSTRUCTION

Rectangular construction offers 2 horizontal planes for casting accuracy braced on two sides by vertical planes for casting strength. Ounce for ounce, the "Four" is stonger, more powerful and more accurate than cane rods of other design.

TAPERS

Our cane joints (blanks) are developed with tapers that suit specific action requirements and are bonded with a fine, highly water resistant adhesive which gas given a good accounting of itself for many years. The proper selection of these tapers in various cross sections, is the basis for any desired action, whether the rod be two or three piece. The length, action and type of reel-seat are major factors in the finished weight of all rods.

FERRULES

The ferrules that we use are produced in our own shop of 18% nickel/silver tubing, individually drawn to close decimal tolerance and hand fitted at assembly. Female ferrules are equipped with water stops. Units are serrated and mounted in such a way as to nearly eliminate the removal of the cane at the ferrule station. The finish may be oxidized or bright as rod model or individual taste may dictate.

GUIDES, TOPS, WINDINGS & FINISH

Classic tungsten snake guides and tip-tops will be used on all fly rods while supplies last. Carbide stripping guides are used and are available in black or bright finish. Application of guides and other windings are done by hand with silk thread in colors that are standard for various models. All rods are coated with a premium grade of exterior spar varnish.
